Give to Economics
The Department of Economics is deeply engaged in all of the core scholarly missions: research, teaching and service. Our world-class faculty is involved in research that expands the boundaries of basic knowledge and contributes to the development of informed and effective economic policy, in addition to teaching students at the undergraduate, masters, and Ph.D. levels. Those students go on to excel in their fields internationally, with job placements covering the areas of policy, finance, and academia.
While maintaining approximately the same size in terms of total personnel, the Department improves constantly in terms of its stature and reputation within the profession, due to the unflagging efforts of its members and its chairs, and with the support of the Dean’s office. In what follows, we will describe how you can support the ongoing work of the Department of Economics and the research efforts of its students.
Fund Options
Donors may specify that their gift is given in honor of a particular person, place, event, or organization which deserves respect or thanks. Their gifts will be appropriately acknowledged and their honoree recognized and informed of their gift.
- The Department of Economics Gift Fund provides support for any worthy activity related to the department and its programs. Projects or activities that the department may use discretionary gifts to fund or support include naming or endowing professorships; graduate fellowships and stipend supplements to attract especially able students; events promoting effective research and teaching by faculty members; and speakers of professional and public interest. Give to the Economics Gift Fund.
- The John J. Siegfried Economics Honors Student Research Fund provides support for the research activities of undergraduate Honors students, including travel support for the collection of data and other costs of acquiring or accessing data. Give to the Siegfried Fund.
- The T. Aldrich Finegan Award for Best Honors Thesis provides an annual award for the best thesis (or theses) written by senior students in our rigorous undergraduate Honors Program in Economics. Give to the Finegan Award.
Give to the M.A./GPED Program
Your gift to the M.A. in Economics/GPED program helps support students who will make a significant impact on the world, particularly in developing nations. We deeply appreciate your generosity.
Fund Options
- The James S. and Rosemary Worley Fund provides scholarship support to one or more first-year students who demonstrate academic merit, interest in further study in economics, and commitment to economic development. The fund is named for James Worley, former director of the GPED (1963-1988), and his wife Rosemary. James developed the program to a position of strength, with a more clearly defined mission and lasting relationships with people and governments around the world. Give to the Worley Fund.
- The Mouzon and Sultan Siddiqi Citizenship Award is given annually to a second-year student who demonstrates kindness, inclusion, helpfulness, and altruism. The award is named for former GPED program coordinator (1987-2016) Mouzon Siddiqi and her late husband Sultan, whose warmth, kindness, and hospitality created an environment of love and companionship within the GPED. Give to the Siddiqi Award.
