Director Bill Badi’s new short, “Smother,” just won Best Picture at the Johannesburg 48 Hour Film Project!

They also won awards for Best Writing, Best Editing, Best Sound Design, Best Costume & Makeup, Best Cinematography, and Best Directing.

“Smother” was nominated in six other categories as well (music, special effects, actor, actress, ensemble, and producing). As Johannesburg’s Best Picture winner, “Smother” will be screened at Filmapalooza 2021 in Washington, D.C., alongside winners from every other competing city. Johannesburg had more entries than any other city this year (so far), with 71 teams competing for the prize.
