Humanitas College Fellowships
WHAT IS HUMANITAS?
HUMANITAS is a non-profit first established in 1974 as an organization dedicated to encouraging and rewarding Hollywood screenwriters who imbue their works with progressive humanist values. Our board is made up of writers like David Shore, Carol Mendelsohn, and Edward Zwick. Over the years, our mission has expanded to include supporting not just established writers, but also young and emerging talent.
WHAT ARE THE HUMANITAS COLLEGE FELLOWSHIPS?
Since 2012, HUMANITAS has had the great pleasure to annually award two college students, whose script deeply explores the human condition, while also being entertaining and commercially successful, with $20,000 to help further their education and get a running start in our challenging industry.
The Carol Mendelsohn College Drama Fellowship and the David and Lynn Angell College Comedy Fellowship are now open for entries. After multiple rounds of judging, each fellowship names twenty semi-finalist scripts, up to four finalists — with one winner named to receive a $20,000 cash prize.
This month, we awarded the most recent fellowships to:
Tex Gresham — University of Nevada, Las Vegas — won The David and Lynn Angell College Comedy Fellowship for his dramedy Fix Daddy.
Laura Valin-Peñalba — University of California, Los Angeles — won The Carol Mendelsohn College Drama Fellowship for her war drama Nameless Children.

WHO IS ELIGIBLE TO ENTER?
We accept feature length screenplays and 30-minute or 60-minute teleplays. Students attending an accredited community college, undergraduate program, or graduate program may apply. We recommend applicants be enrolled in a film, tv, playwriting, or screenwriting track or program at their respective university, but we welcome any and all students to submit their material.
WHERE CAN STUDENTS APPLY?
We use a web platform called CoverFly to take in all of our submissions.
