Amanda Johnson
Originally from Cincinnati, Ohio, Amanda represented her college, the University of Chicago, in the Jeopardy! collegiate tournament in 2003, and studied abroad in London before graduating with honors in 2006. She also holds an MA in Eighteenth-Century Studies from the University of York in Yorkshire, England, and an MA in English from Vanderbilt University. Having spent considerable time in the UK, she's now building her experience in US archives, having earned fellowships and grants to travel to the special collections at the University of Virginia and the John Carter Brown Library. She studies how colonists in slave-owning societies created fictions of whiteness to solidify their position within the British Empire.
