Science and the Frontier of AI

In the past 18 months, the structures of nearly all known proteins (over 200 million) were predicted by an AI technology, Alphafold, completely reshaping protein structure research. 2.2 million possible new materials were predicted by an AI tool, GNoME. And all of us have, or will have, our academic work and research transformed by generative AI. How did we get here? And what are the new frontiers for AI in science?
