Prof. Raghav Kunnawalkam Elayavalli ran a pilot program for a science outreach during the summer of 2023 with 26 metro Nashville high school students as part of the School for Science and Math at Vanderbilt (SSMV) program. This program titled ‘Let’s Smash the Proton’ was hugely exciting for the students to participate in research that will be conducted at the upcoming Electron-Ion Collider (EIC) at a national laboratory in the US. The impact that these types of programs create is a long-term one to fascinate students with the concepts of high-energy physics, programming, statistics and to increase the overall scientific workforce in basic research.
