Why German, Russian and East European Studies?
Led by internationally recognized faculty, students in our department explore the languages, literatures, and cultures of one of the most vibrant regions of our world. Whether we engage with key texts of famous authors and philosophers; with films, music, visual artwork, and performances created by pathbreaking artists; or with haunting histories of genocide and powerful narratives of political transformation, our goal is to foster critical frameworks, interdisciplinary perspectives, and innovative collaborations that recognize the critical importance of German-speaking cultures, Russia, and East Europe for our globally connected present.
