Director’s Welcome

Welcome to CLACX, where students and faculty will find exciting opportunities to stoke their research passions, embark on fulfilling career paths, and to partner in meaningful ways with the Nashville community and beyond. Created in Fall 2021, our intellectual project is to examine connections between Latinx and Latin American and Caribbean Studies, enriching all through comparative and interdisciplinary analyses.

LACX courses ground students in law, international business, medicine and health, and global cultural flows. LACX faculty invest their courses. We routinely welcome alumni and visiting speakers, take local excursions (e.g., Frist Museum and Geodis Stadium), and use the CLACX Ethnobotanical Garden as a classroom. Faculty-led immersion projects build from our core courses, invigorating students’ learning experiences. Recent graduates have launched promising careers in banking, government service, law, and education.

We need your questions and convictions to help us solve real-world problems. Please continue exploring our site for more specifics on degree programs, and to appreciate CLACX’s longstanding collaborations with the schools of medicine, education, nursing, music, and law, among others, at Vanderbilt.

We look forward to seeing you.

Hasta pronto,
Celso Thomas Castilho
