Samantha Perez

Samantha Perez received her B.A. in Sociology from University of California at Santa Cruz in 2008 and her M.A. in Sociology from Vanderbilt University in 2013. Her major research interests include Latino/a sociology, panethnicity, racial and ethnic formation, international migration, social stratification, and culture. Her master’s thesis examined the educational involvement of Latino immigrant parents, comparing foreign-based Mexicans, Dominicans, and Puerto Ricans (both island and mainland-born). Her findings reveal that legal status and self-efficacy have important implications for how parents get involved in their children’s education.
