Marie-Helene Bertino joins Gertrude C. & Harold S. Vanderbilt Reading Series
Novelist and short story writer Marie-Helene Bertino joined the Gertrude C. & Harold S. Vanderbilt Reading Series on November 6 with her novel Beautyland, an American Book Award winner and National Book Critics Circle finalist, which follows Adina Giorno, born with unusual perception to a single mother in Philadelphia. The arrival of a fax machine enables her to contact her extraterrestrial relatives, beings who have sent her to report on the oddities of Earthlings. The New York Times Book Review called Beautyland, “A perfect little polished garnet of a novel.” Before reading from the novel, Bertino joined a salon featuring the works of current MFA students and signed copies of her novel for the attendees.
