Maya Riles

Maya Riles is a first-year doctoral student with an emphasis on literature of the Long Nineteenth Century, with a specialty in the Victorian Era. Her research interests include sensationalism, aestheticism, corporeality, morbidities and monsterizations, and the Newgate and detective novels. She is under the mentorship of Dr. Jay Clayton. Her current research questions lie in the ghostliness and Othering of the Chinese Victorian, and the interplays, dualities, and contrasts of Victorian England and the American Wild West.
