Carly Rush

Carly Rush received her B.A. in Sociology from University of California Santa Barbara in 2008 and her M.A. in Sociology from Vanderbilt in 2012. Her major research interests include culture, disability, and embodiment. Her dissertation uses data from a yearlong ethnography she is currently conducting at Gallaudet University to understand the shifting boundaries of the Deaf community. She designed this research to explore variation in the understandings of community along linguistic, cultural, and embodied markers of deafness. Carly is also affiliated with the Strategic National Arts Alumni Project (SNAAP), which is a joint endeavor between Indiana University and Vanderbilt’s Curb Center for Art, Enterprise and Public Policy to understand artists’ education and career pathways. Her research with SNAAP team members focuses on gender inequalities in artistic careers. More information can be found at Carly’s blog at http://silentethnography.blogspot.com.
