Since joining the Vanderbilt faculty as a Senior Lecturer in 2019, Dr. Chan has taught courses in Calculus, Differential Equations, Probability and Statistics, and Numerical Methods.

In 2024, Dr. Chan received Honorable Mention for the Department of Mathematics' Shanks Teaching Faculty Award.

Dr. Chan also serves on the College of Arts and Science's Committee on Academic Standards & Procedures (CASP) and the Steering Committee for the STEM Training and Education Project (STEP).

During the summers, Dr. Chan participates in the Fall Early Start Transition (FEST) Program, connecting incoming students to a community that will last throughout their college careers and beyond.

Dr. Chan's research area is Algebraic Topology.
