Kate Perry

Kate Perry is a fifth-year PhD candidate studying modern Central European history. Her dissertation asks questions about Central Europe’s role in the globalization of music by following four towns on the German-Czech border that were the world’s largest producers of violin strings on the eve of the First World War. Kate’s primary advisors are Helmut Walser Smith at Vanderbilt and Kira Thurman at the University of Michigan.

Before coming to Vanderbilt, Kate earned a BA at Grinnell College and spent a year working as a Fulbright English Teaching Assistant in Halle, Germany.
