EES PhD Student Mahir Tajwar Receives People’s Choice Award
Congratulations to one of our graduate students, Mahir Tajwar, for receiving the People’s Choice Award in the Student Poster Competition at the 2025 Tennessee Water Resources Symposium (TWRS), held in Montgomery Bell State Park, Tennessee!
Mahir’s research poster, titled “Understanding Seasonal and Diel Carbon and Oxygen Dynamics in an Oligotrophic Freshwater Lake,” was selected by conference attendees as the most impactful presentation. His project investigates the biogeochemical processes and diel (day-night) cycles of carbon and oxygen in Stephens Lake, a shallow oligotrophic lake in Franklin, Tennessee. This work is part of Mahir’s first dissertation chapter, conducted under the guidance of Dr. John C. Ayers, along with committee members Dr. Steven L. Goodbred, Jr. and Dr. Lin Meng. The Department congratulates Mahir on this achievement and looks forward to his continued contributions to aquatic biogeochemistry and environmental research.
