Congrats to EES Undergraduate and Alumni- Maya, Joyce, and Bea!
Congrats Maya, Joyce & Bea! The Department of Earth and Environmental Sciences would like to highlight some cool achievements of recent and former EES undergrads in the past couple of months:
- Current EES senior Maya Maciel-Seidman (EES ’25) recently published her work with Dr. Z Tzankova (Climate Studies): “Mobilizing carbon offsetting to reduce energy cost burdens: a new approach for calculating and monetizing the offset value of energy efficiency upgrades to low-income housing” in the journal Frontiers in Energy Research.
- Joyce Sanks (EES ’24) published her work with Dr. Rachel Racicot (Seckenburg) Predicting ecology and hearing sensitivities in Parapontoporia—An extinct long-snouted dolphin in The Anatomical Record. This work is based on Joyce’s senior honors thesis for which she received highest honors. Joyce spent the summer monitoring sea turtle nests in coastal Georgia.
- EES alum Beatrice (Rodewald) Bock (EES ’20) was awarded second place for her poster ‘Common mycorrhizal networks: exploring the “dark web“’ at the 12th International Conference on Mycorrhiza. Bea is now a PhD student at Northern Arizona University, and she wrote a wonderful blog post about her career trajectory with shout-outs to EES: https://functionalecologists.com/2024/09/25/beatrice-bock-becoming-a-scientist-wasnt-a-mistake-just-a-happy-little-accident/
