Graduate Student Financial Support
Graduate students admitted to the Ph.D. program receive:
- An annual 12-month stipend of $35,000 for a period of 5 years
- A full-tuition scholarship
- Health insurance
Our policy is usually to admit only those students for whom we can provide full support. Students who have independent funding should contact the Director of Graduate Studies before applying. In rare cases where students are admitted without full support, the university will charge tuition on a per-semester-hour basis (currently approximately $2,215/hour).
All EES Ph.D. students, regardless of funding source, serve as teaching assistants one semester per year. This approach provides essential training in the craft of teaching while allowing dedicated time to focus on research.
The Graduate School and the university also provide a variety of supplementary funding options for graduate students. Most are competitive. For more information, visit the Graduate School website.
Alberstadt-Reesman-Stearns Fund
The Alberstadt-Reesman-Stearns Fund is provided by a generous endowed gift to the department from its alumni. The gift was granted to the department in support of research and field studies for both graduate and undergraduate students. All EES majors and graduate students are eligible to apply for these funds. Apply for an Alberstadt-Reesman-Stearns Award.
Graduate Student Grant Applications
Graduate Students that are intending to submit a grant proposal should complete the Grant Proposal Notice of Intent Redcap Form.
