Beckman Scholars Program

The Beckman Scholars Program provides scholarships that contribute significantly to advancing the education, research training, and personal development of select students in chemistry, biochemistry, and the biological and medical sciences. The sustained, in-depth undergraduate research experiences and comprehensive faculty mentoring are unique in terms of program scope, content, and level of scholarship awards.

  2. The American Chemical Society Bridge Travel & Professional Development Award

                From the ACS Website:

Purpose: To defray expenses necessary to attend the ACS Spring or Fall Meeting, such as registration fees, transportation, lodging, presentation materials, and meals.

Description: This award will cover up to $2,000 in expenses for selected applicants who wish to attend the upcoming ACS Fall Meeting. This opportunity is open to all students, regardless of presentation status, abstract submission, or ACS membership.

Departmental Awards

The Robert V. Dilts Award

Awarded to a student who excels in analytical chemistry, with preference given to a student who is planning a career in the field.

2022 winner – Campbell Flower

The Thomas W. Martin Award

Established in 1993 in memory of Thomas W. Martin, professor of chemistry at Vanderbilt from 1957 to 1991. Presented annually to a graduating chemistry major who has excelled in physical chemistry and plans to attend graduate school in chemistry.

2022 winner – Sophia Vogelsang

Organic Chemistry Award

Given annually to a graduating senior who has excelled in organic chemistry, either having earned the highest grades in the courses taken or having done outstanding research in organic chemistry.

2022 winner – Nicole Wright

The Mark M. Jones Award

Awarded to an outstanding student in inorganic chemistry, with preference given to a student who has excelled in research.

2022 winner – Kathryn Fink

The Merck Index Award

Awarded to an outstanding graduating senior who is pursuing medical school or graduate school.

2022 winner – Jennifer Young

The Outstanding Chemistry Award

Presented annually to a graduating senior majoring in chemistry who has been adjudged the most distinguished in undergraduate research in chemistry.

2022 winners – Robert Gotschalk, Long Viet Than

Donald E. Pearson Outstanding Senior Award

Presented annually to a graduating senior planning graduate work in chemistry, who, in the opinion of the faculty of the Department of Chemistry, shows the most promise for an outstanding career.

American Chemical Society Awards

Undergraduate Physical Chemistry Award

Given annually by the Physical Chemistry Division of the American Chemical Society with the purpose of recognizing “outstanding achievement by undergraduate students in physical chemistry and to encourage further pursuits in the field”.

2022 winner – Sophie Vogelsang

Inorganic Chemistry Award for Undergraduate Research

Beginning in 2010, the award was designated by the ACS Division of Inorganic Chemistry Award for Undergraduate Research “to recognize the collaborative research of an outstanding undergraduate student/preceptor team in the field of inorganic chemistry, as broadly defined.”
