Jacob Brown

Jacob is a PhD candidate in the Department of Spanish and Portuguese at Vanderbilt University. His dissertation, titled "Writing for the Silenced: Nineteenth-Century and Contemporary Latin American Slave Narratives," examines a trajectory of antislavery writing and black authorship in the Spanish Caribbean and Brazil.
In addition to research, Jacob is passionate about teaching and promoting Latin American languages and cultures on campus. He was awarded an E. Inman Fox Romance Language Award for excellence in teaching and received a Center for Second Language Studies fellowship for 2018-2019.
