Earl Fitz

Professor of Portuguese, Spanish, and Comparative Literature

Professor Fitz’s activities in 2019 included the publication of a new book, Machado De Assis and Narrative Theory. Professor Fitz was interviewed by BBC Brazil for an article on the Brazilian author Clarice Lispector, celebrating one hundred years since her birth. Other 2020 activities included the publication of a book chapter with Routledge titled “Indigenous Literature” and an article in GLAUKS: REVISTA DE LETRAS E ARTES called, “The Reception of Machado de Assis and Clarice Lispector in the United States.”  He also participated in a Princeton Podcast with an invited reading of his work on Clarice Lispector, and he delivered an invited talk at Purdue University via Zoom.

January 13, 2018, Translation Workshop. At the annual conference of the American Literary Translators Association at Indiana University, Dr. Fitz presented “Two’s Company: On Teamwork and Co-Translation” and discussed his translation projects with the late Distinguished Professor Gregory Rabassa.
