Benjamin Legg

Principal Senior Lecturer of Portuguese and Coordinator of Elementary Portuguese 1103

Legg is a Senior Lecturer of Portuguese. He comes to Vanderbilt after completing a PhD in Portuguese and Brazilian Studies at Brown University in 2016, where he also obtained his MA. He has instructed various levels of Portuguese language and literature classes at the University of Massachusetts-Dartmouth, Brown University and Harvard University. At Vanderbilt, he teaches Portuguese language as well as courses on Brazilian culture. Among his major research interests are U.S.-Brazil cultural relations, travel narrative, gender and sexuality, and national identity. He is the author of a chapter on actress Sônia Braga in the 2015 edited volume Performing Brazil, and is active in translation from Portuguese to English.
