Assistant Professor of the Practice in Medicine, Health & Society

I am an Assistant Professor of the Practice in the Department of Medicine, Health, and Society (MHS). Before joining Vanderbilt, I worked as a lecturer in the Quantitative Methods program at the University of Michigan, Ann Arbor, where I taught courses on research methods, big data, and machine learning. I earned my PhD in Economics from Southern Illinois University Carbondale. As an applied microeconomist, my research focuses on development and health issues, especially in developing countries. I employ an interdisciplinary approach, utilizing tools from multiple disciplines to provide more effective solutions to my research questions. In recent times, my research has examined the effects of conflict and climate change on various individual and household outcomes. I have published in respected journals such as World Development. I am passionate about teaching data-centered and data-driven courses from a practical perspective. To achieve this, I integrate real-world data and programming languages-specifically R and Python-into my teaching of policy-related topics. My goal is to equip students with the skills necessary to effectively handle big data and derive meaningful insights from it.
