Professor Derek Griffith raises awareness about men’s health equity and structurally based risks for COVID-19.
COVID-19 death reports do not often provide a full explanation of patterns, such as a person’s race, where they lived and with whom, socioeconomic status, age, sex, or gender. According to Dr. Derek Griffith, this information may be more accurate in indicating risk of contracting and dying from COVID-19 than people’s behavior.
Dr. Griffith strives to take an intersectional approach to researching the impacts of COVID-19, advocating for a better understanding of identity’s role in determining risk to enhance policy reforms toward greater health equity.
