Tizoc Chavez

Tizoc Chavez is a PhD candidate in American history. His research interests include U.S. foreign relations, transnational history, and history of the presidency.  His dissertation, "Presidential Parley: Personal Diplomacy and the Modern Presidency," looks at the growth and use of personal diplomacy by presidents in the second half of the twentieth century. Tizoc participated in the Clements Center for History, Strategy & Statecraft’s inaugural Summer Seminar in History and Statecraft in 2014. In support of his research, he has received a Moody Research Grant from the LBJ Foundation and the Herbert and Blanche Henry Weaver Fellowship. In 2011-2012 he served as the History Fellow for the Nashville Committee on Foreign Relations, and before coming to Vanderbilt did an internship at the Department of State. His advisor is Dr. Thomas A. Schwartz.
