Martina Schaefer

Martina Schaefer is a seventh year graduate student in U.S. history. Her research focuses on the Black Power movement and African diasporic religions. Her dissertation project traces the trajectory of Black Power activists and examines how they related to and incorporated African diasporic religions into their lives and work. She is particularly interested in topics that relate to African-inspired religious practices, community health activism, urban farming and food initiatives, and various other forms of cultural self-expression and community making. Martina is studying with Professor Dennis C. Dickerson.
