Huma Azmi

Huma is a first-year doctoral student interested in medieval and early modern South Asian history. Her research interests include revisiting the Afghan period in medieval North India through a gendered perspective. Through an analysis of a diverse range of literary sources, both classical and vernacular, along with inscriptional evidences and an evaluation of the contemporary visual narration, she is interested in examining distinct aspects of women's lives, the power dynamics, the gender constructs, relations, and identities. Prior to getting enrolled in the History Ph.D. program at Vanderbilt, she completed her Bachelor’s, Master’s, and M.Phil. degrees in History from the University of Delhi. Her advisor is Professor Samira Sheikh.
