Grace Richards

Grace Richards is a third year PhD student studying modern European history, particularly Germany in the 19th and 20th centuries. She is especially interested in questions of intellectual connections across eras. Her master’s thesis “Reevaluating Lebensraum: Friedrich Ratzel, Darwinism, and the Argument for Imperialist Continuity, 1871-1945” (2021) challenged the overemphasis on continuities with Nazism in the English-language literature on German intellectual Friedrich Ratzel. Grace is studying with Professor Helmut Walser Smith.
