Adam List
Principal Senior Lecturer
Adam List developed a love a chemistry early on in his life, presumably from being dropped on his head as a child. This love of chemistry prompted him to eventually earn a BS degree in Chemistry from Valparaiso University. Hoping to obtain enough chemical information to further his goals of world domination he attended The University of Chicago and obtained a Ph.D. in Inorganic Chemistry. However, he did not make much progress on the world domination thing because of all the lovely colored inorganic compounds he made while in graduate school. After graduating he put his world domination plans on hold to teach organic chemistry labs and later general chemistry labs at The University of Chicago. Motivated by the desire to live in the same city as his wife, he moved to Nashville and started at Vanderbilt University in the summer of 1999. Since arriving at Vanderbilt he has taught General Chemistry, Organic Chemistry, and Organic Chemistry labs. Adam served as Director of Undergraduate Studies in Chemistry from 2002 to 2019. In between teaching undergraduate chemistry courses, Adam looks for the world domination plans that are lost somewhere in his office and spends time with his family and pets.
