Specializations

Paleogenomics, Paleopathology, Biosocial Determinants of Health

Katie is a doctoral candidate in Anthropology who entered the program in 2019. She completed her B.S. in Biology and Anthropology from the College of William and Mary in Virginia. As an undergraduate student, Katie participated in research with a biocultural focus that assessed the skeletal trauma associated with slavery in 17th and 18th Century New York.

Katie's doctoral research applies paleogenomics methodologies to identify human-associated microbes in past populations to answer questions about the long-term impacts of ecological and social change on human-microbial interactions that impact population health. She is currently involved in projects assessing infectious disease in a Maya population across the Classic - Postclassic periods and investigating oral microbiomes from a Middle Horizon site in southern Peru.
