Lorenzo Gavassino is Postdoc of the Year
Dr. Lorenzo Gavassino was recently recognized as co-recipient of the 2025 Postdoc of the Year Award. This University-wide award was announced by the Office of Postdoctoral Affairs at the Spring Postdoc Awards Ceremony. According to the Office of Postdoctoral Affairs:
The Postdoc of the Year award recognizes a postdoctoral scholar who demonstrates excellence in research and scholarship. The nominee must demonstrate excellence in several criteria, including publications, presentations, awards/honors, service and mentoring. The Office of Postdoctoral Affairs solicited nominations from faculty in each school, and the Postdoctoral Fellow Advisory Committee reviewed and voted on all nominations.
Lorenzo is a theoretical and mathematical physicist working with Prof. Marcelo Disconzi. He has received several other major recognitions, including the MERAC Prize from the European Astophysical Society and widespread media coverage of his work on the mathematics of time travel. Having completed his three year position at Vanderbilt, Gavassino is off to a second postdoc at Cambridge University.
