Join us on Sept. 11 at 4:10 in Buttrick Hall 123 for Charlotte Østergaard’s Interactive Workshop and Discussion “Costume Materiality and Collective Listening”

In this lecture/interactive workshop, Charlotte Østergaard introduces will discuss and engage participants in her artistic research around textile sensibilities and playful co-creation. Her research treats crafting as a woman-centered practice that focuses cultivates our abilities to listen together with human and more-than-human others. As participants knot together a crochet network, what she calls a “social sculpture, Østerggard will demonstrate how costume materialities not only enhance our collaborative relationships but also our experiences of community.

 

The lecture-workshop includes easy, co-creative and playful physical explorations with textile materialities, so please wear comfortable clothing.

Dr. Charlotte Østergaard is a Danish textile artist, costume and fashion designer, author, and researcher, currently visiting U.S. universities with an artistic fellowship from the Danish Arts Foundation. Her artworks have been exhibited in Canada, China, Danmark, Germany, Norway, Russia, Ukraine, and the USA, and her work is represented in the museum collection of Danish Designmuseum and The National Gallery of Denmark. Her artistic research in site-specific, co-creative costumes has been produced in cities across Europe, including Prague, Moscow, and Copenhagen.
