Upcoming Summer 2021 Courses in CMST
Interested in taking comm studies courses online this summer? Have a look at what we’re offering during Summer Session I:
This summer the Department of Communication Studies is offering a section of CMST 1002: Introduction to Communication Studies in Summer Session I (MTWRF, 02:10p – 04:00p).
The intro course is a great way to learn about the field of communication and what students can expect should they pursue a major in Communication Studies – from the analysis of historic speeches to the study of social media today. Completing CMST 1002 in the summer allows students to lay a foundation for other major courses they might take in the upcoming academic year. The intimate summer class size affords more time for workshopping class assignments and one-on-one dialogue with the professor. Moreover, this summer students will have the unique opportunity to take the course online. Doing so will give students practice with online communication – a skill that is perhaps more relevant now than ever given our current cultural moment.
This summer the Department of Communication Studies is offering a section of CMST 1500: Fundamentals of Public Speaking in Summer Session I (MTWRF, 10:10a – 12:00p).
The fundamental communication skills developed in CMST 1500 are beneficial for all intended careers, and the condensed summer schedule allows students to quickly experience growth in these competencies. Intimate summer class sizes afford more time for practice speeches, workshopping of presentations, and one-on-one coaching from the professor. Many students have found the summer pace and smaller setting ideal for this course. Moreover, this summer students will have the unique opportunity to take the course online. Students will spend time learning how to adapt speeches to the online setting – a skill that is perhaps more relevant now than ever given our current cultural moment.
