The Vanderbilt Debate Team attends the World Universities Debating Championship in Panama City, Panama
Over winter break, The Vanderbilt Debate Team traveled to Panama City, Panama for the World Universities Debating Championship. This is an annual event where the top British Parliamentary Debate teams in the world compete for the title of world champion. At this competition, Vanderbilt debated schools from Africa, Asia, Europe, North America, Oceania, and South America. Attendees included Cambridge, Dartmouth, Harvard, Oxford, Trinity College, University of Sydney, and Yale. This year Vanderbilt had their best result ever at the tournament; competing in a round that would determine who advanced to elimination rounds. While we did not do so, this marks a major achievement in the development of our international debate program. In addition to debate, the team explored the city, learned about different cultures and countries, practiced their Spanish, and visited the Panama Canal. The team will next travel internationally to South Korea in March for the annual International Forensics Association Tournament.
