A Bridge Over the River (Cuba, 2009)
In the middle of Cuba's central mountains lives Lency, a man with no limits on his inventiveness and creativity--he has a solution for everything--the lack of transportation, electricity, domestic labor, etc. He is a regular family guy but he does things a bit differently, figures out ways to deal with daily problems and helps out his neighbors in tough times.
A Bridge Over the River is a beautifully shot tribute to an extraordinary man. The documentary starts off showcasing some of Lency's relatively modest efforts - constructing a part for a piece of agricultural machinery and adapting a distributor cap for a neighbour who was sold the wrong part. But soon we are introduced to work that reveals the true scope of his genius.
