Amanda Avona, Ph.D.

Senior Lecturer of Neuroscience

I received my Ph.D. in applied cognition and neuroscience from The University of Texas at Dallas in 2021. The focus of my thesis explored why people assigned female at birth are more likely to experience migraine than those assigned male. This work had a particular focus on the role of the hormone prolactin and calcitonin gene-related peptide. Following my Ph.D., I worked as a Study Manager for the sleep science company Emma in Frankfurt, Germany where I wrote pieces about the science of sleep for the general public. I then decided to pursue my passion for teaching and became an Assistant Professor at Saint Louis University teaching general biology, neurobiology of disease, and neuroscience laboratory methods.
