Amadeus Martin was born in Jalisco, Mexico—the land of mariachi, tequila, and birria—and was raised in San Francisco, California. As the first person in his family to attend college, his academic journey began at City College of San Francisco before he transferred to the University of California, Santa Cruz (Go Banana Slugs!), where he earned his bachelor's degree in mathematics. He later completed his Ph.D. in mathematics at the University of Nebraska–Lincoln, where he studied commutative algebra.
