Prof. Webb named Centennial Professor
Prof. Glenn Webb has recently been named Centennial Chair of Mathematics by Vanderbilt. Prof. Webb has been a dedicated member of the Department for 56 years, beginning in 1968. Prof. Webb received his Bachelor’s degree in 1965 at Georgia Institute of Technology and his Ph.D. from Emory University in 1968.
Centennial Professorships were created during Vanderbilt’s Centennial Campaign (1977-81). This professorship is generally held by faculty members of distinction in their disciplines, in recognition of exceptional accomplishment or contribution.
Over his time at Vanderbilt, Prof. Webb has made seminal contributions to the areas of nonlinear semigroups, functional differential equations, infinite dimensional dynamical systems, mathematical population dynamics, mathematical biology, biomedical mathematics, and epidemiology. He has published over 200 papers and received over 30 research grants. He is an inaugural Fellow of the American Mathematical Society. Prof. Webb has also been an extraordinary mentor and friend to countless members of the department.
