Vanderbilt's Jaret Rushing wins Nichols Humantarian Award for Summer Research. His project is entitled "Community and Heritage: Rescuing an Islamic Shrine in Medieval Cairo." Jaret has also won a CLS Summer Language Scholarship to study Urdu.

Vanderbilt University offers undergraduate minors in Islamic Studies (IMST), and Arabic Language (ARA). Graduate studies may be pursued within the "Critical Studies in Asian, Islamic and Jewish Traditions" area of the Graduate Department of Religion, and within the graduate wing of the History Department.
