Welcome to the Interdisciplinary Minors in Arabic and Islamic Studies at Vanderbilt

 

The Robert Penn Warren center Islamic Studies seminar (2021-22) will focus on the Islamic topography of Cairo. "Religious rituals, pilgrimages, and processions are woven up with devotional textuality, both historical and poetic, to produce the topographies of Islamic piety." Co-directors: Richard McGregor (Religious Studies, VU) and Ida Nitter (Near Eastern Languages and Civilizations, Univ. of Pennsylvania). To attend the zoom meetings register here .

 

Vanderbilt's Jaret Rushing publishes his undergraduate research on the Sufi concept of al-Insan al-Kamil . Jaret's paper has also been translated into German.

Vanderbilt University offers undergraduate minors in Islamic Studies (IMST), and Arabic Language (ARA). Graduate studies may be pursued within the "Critical Studies in Asian, Islamic and Jewish Traditions" area of the Graduate Department of Religion, and within the graduate wing of the History Department.
