4+1 B.A./M.A. Program
The department offers a 4+1 program in which qualified students can earn a master’s degree in French with just one additional year beyond their undergraduate work.
Admission
Students with advanced proficiency in French work with a mentor to design a course of study tailored to their individual interests to prepare for graduate school or a career in diplomacy, business, law, or teaching…among many others.
Applicants must:
- Complete the major in French by the end of the junior year
- Earn a cumulative GPA of 3.5 and a French GPA of 3.7
- Complete one semester at an approved program in a French-speaking country
- Apply to the 4+1 B.A./M.A. degree program in the fall semester of the junior year
Application
- Download and complete the Petition to Apply to the Combined 4+1 B.A./M.A. Degree Program.
- Meet with your faculty adviser to obtain his or her signature on the form.
- Meet with Robert Barsky, director of graduate studies, to discuss admission to the program, the timeline for study, and next steps.
