Mandy Muise

Mandy Muise entered the Anthropology Ph.D. program at Vanderbilt in the Fall of 2023. She graduated from Davidson College with a B.A. in Anthropology and a minor in Latin American Studies. Their senior thesis was entitled “Education in the New Latinx South: Grassroots Activism in (Post)Pandemic Charlotte, NC.” At Vanderbilt, Mandy intends to continue studying the social movements that arise in response to the state of Latinx education in the American Southeast, shifting fieldwork away from Charlotte, NC, and toward Nashville, TN.  Using feminist activist ethnographic methods, she will examine the quotidian manifestations of ethnoracialization, public policy, and community organizing upon Latinx students within public education systems, grounding her work in political engagement, collaboration, and a commitment to educational equity.
