How to Apply

Applications for FIPSE/CAPES grants are now being accepted for students wishing to study in Brazil in the spring or summer of 2015.

Our partner universities in Brazil are the Universidade Federal de Pernambuco http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Federal_University_of_Pernambuco

and the Universidade Federal do Rio Grande do Sul http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Universidade_Federal_do_Rio_Grande_do_Sul

This program is open to undergraduate and graduate students who have a 3.0 GPA, who possess the necessary proficiency in Portuguese, and whose course work relates to the theme of "Making One Nation Out of Many: Multiculturalism in the United States and Brazil." The FIPSE grants are $5000 for the semester and tuition is waived at the participating Brazilian universities.

If you are interested in applying, please contact any of the FIPSE/CAPES directors, Jane Landers, or Celso Castilho.

You will need to submit a completed application form, two letters of reference, and required documentation in PDF form (a current university transcript, a two-page statement of interest, and a current photo).

The second phase of the application process consists of an interview conducted in Portuguese by a committee that will include the co-directors and a former student participant.

The deadline for receipt of application materials is November 10, 2014.
