Your Success Story Is Waiting. A European studies major produces well-informed, globally minded citizens who understand the complex and interconnected politics, history, culture, and languages of European nations. With a solid foundation in historical analysis and cultural understanding, and the context to apply that knowledge to debates, events, and conflicts, students are prepared for careers in diplomacy, law, politics, business, journalism, consulting, public interest, economics, finance, the arts and art management, academics, publishing, translating, and education, among other areas.

As a European studies major, you’ll learn to:

  • Conceive and execute projects, either in groups or individually
  • Analyze historic material and use contemporary scholarship
  • Draw connections among various cultures, identify trends, and contextualize debates, events, and conflicts
  • Interpret European cultures and understand the mutually dependent actions of Europe’s individual nations
  • See Europe and its role in the world from a global perspective
  • Connect language skills and knowledge of cultures and nations
  • Use your cultural expertise in a variety of professions.

Specifically, EUS majors excel in careers that include international affairs or trans-Atlantic relations such as in the areas of diplomacy, politics, law, journalism, consulting, public interest, economics, finance, the arts and art management (curating, auctioning, trading), academics, publishing, translating, and education.
