Shellie Richards

Shellie Fajardo Richards is a Research Assistant Professor in the Communication of Science and Technology Program at Vanderbilt University. She has an MA in English (writing) and an MFA in creative Writing. Her research interests include the language used by mainstream news media, health and medical communication. She currently has a Buchanan Fellowship to study language used by journalists during the pandemic.
In 2021, she won The Covid-19 Innovation Teaching Award for special attention to Student Inclusivity, Engagement and Well-Being. Her creative writing has appeared in The Coachella Review, The Cream City Review, bioStories, Blue Lake Review, Oatmeal Magazine, Bending Genres, Bartleby Snopes (Story of the Month), JONAH Magazine, and The Chaffey Review, among others. Her novel, The November Molecule was the recipient of two Bookfest awards including 1st. place and was featured on the billboard in Times Square in August 2023. She is a member of the Porch Writers' Collective in Nashville, TN and a member of Association of Writers & Writing Programs.
