Why Business Studies?
By studying essential fundamentals with an array of electives, students in business studies acquire a broadly relevant skill set and explore a variety of industries, functions, and roles. The curriculum includes operational, financial, strategic, and interpersonal learning that equips students from all disciplines for careers in business.
Business studies students gain the following key proficiencies:
Leadership, Teamwork, and Collaboration
By working in groups on extensive team-based projects, students gain valuable leadership and teamwork skills, positioning them for success in highly collaborative work environments.
Self-awareness and Career Readiness
Through exposure to the basic disciplines of business, students begin to discern which career paths might best suit them. This is bolstered by strong extracurricular programming, including guest speakers, case competitions and other real-world activities.
Complex Problem-Solving Skills
The curriculum exposes students to a variety of business problems and asks them to apply best-in-class frameworks and creativity to solve them. The interplay between using known approaches and developing original methods and frameworks is a hallmark of the program and, as we often hear from graduates, a critical component of professional success.
Quantitative and Analytical Skills
Students develop quantitative and analytical skills, learning to collect and manipulate data in order to make compelling arguments and data-driven decisions.
Financial Literacy
Students develop financial skills, from understanding basic accounting and finance to performing complex analysis and modeling.
Professional Communication and Presentation Skills
Students develop professional communication and presentation skills, helping them prepare and deliver convincing and compelling public presentations of their work.
Ethical and Responsible Use of Artificial Intelligence
The business world is all-in on both generative and agentic AI, and we integrate their use into our curriculum. From teaching tools to discerning and evaluating responsible use, students are pushed to use AI as support, but not a replacement, for original thinking.
Hands-On Experience
Students get extensive hands-on experiences with actual businesses, developing management skills for improving organizational process, workflow, and business results, and learning the tools and techniques necessary to help businesses operate.
