Faculty and students explore New York City theatre offerings
During the last spring break in 2023, six theatre students traveled to New York City with Christin Essin, associate professor of theatre, and Krista Knight, writer-in-residence of cinema and media arts, to see a range of theatre offerings and meet with department alumni. In addition to touring the new Museum of Broadway, they saw Sam Hunter’s A Bright New Boise at the Signature Theatre; Joe Murphy and Joe Robertson’s The Jungle at St. Anne’s Warehouse; and the Broadway musical Some Like it Hot. They also attended an event hosted by the Office of Career Advancement and Engagement with alumni living in the city, including Michele Thompson BA’91, Jessica Owens BA’12, and Isabelle “Izzy” Mann BA’18.
This year, eleven students will travel to New York, with tickets booked to see the Broadway musicals Merrily We Roll Along and Back to the Future, The Hunt at St. Anne’s Warehouse, and Michael R. Jackson’s Teeth at Playwrights Horizons. Students will also meet one on one with Jackson, winner of the Pulitizer Award for Drama, for a musical writing workshop.
