Elvira Aballi Morell

Elvira Aballí Morell graduated in Spanish Philology from Universidad de La Habana, Cuba. She is a graduate student in the Department of Spanish & Portuguese, Vanderbilt University. Her main field of study is Afro-Hispanic Literature. She is one of the editors of the cultural magazine Furman217 and the assistant editor of the Afro-Hispanic Review. She has organized and participated in different panels on cultural studies. Aballí Morell’s dissertation will focus on contemporary Afro-Cuban narrative. Her research interest encompasses 19th and 20th Afro-Hispanic literature with an emphasis on Caribbean and diaspora writers in the US, film, music and visual arts, language and ideology.
