Fräncille Bergquist

M. Francille Bergquist (Ph.D., Texas Tech University), Assistant Professor of Spanish, arrived at Vanderbilt in 1977 and assumed office as Associate Dean of Academic Affairs in 1983. Her responsibilities include organizing the pre-major advising program and on a daily basis monitoring and advising students on their academic progress. A leader in orientation activities, she also edits a number of Arts and Science publications and supervises the McTyeire International House project which she helped to establish. Her research interests include historical linguistics and foreign language teaching methodology. In 1983 she won the Madison Sarratt Award for Excellence in Undergraduate Teaching, and in 1995 the Jacqueline Elliot Award for meritorious service in the field of high education in foreign languages. In addition to her many decanal duties, she continues to teach Spanish.
