Supporting the Spanish and Portuguese Department
We hope that you take a moment to look at the various dimensions of the Department of Spanish and Portuguese presented on these webpages. They reflect our ambitious desire to be the best in all aspects of our scholarly mission: research, teaching, and service. Our professors are actively engaged in research and publish in the most respected journals and presses. Many have won prestigious national and international awards. We provide our undergraduates opportunities to excel in the learning of new languages. All our language courses provide current and stimulating contact with the diverse cultures of the Spanish, Portuguese, and Catalan speaking areas of the world. The students who major in Spanish and/or minor in Portuguese learn to think, read, write, and converse at a sophisticated level as they engage in the study of literature, linguistics, and culture. Our graduate students are trained to excel in all aspects of the profession. They participate in conferences, carry out exciting research, publish their findings, and have won both internal and external awards. They have earned positions at the best four-year colleges and universities.
