Andrea Becker

Andréa Becker received her B.A. in Sociology and Women’s and Gender Studies from Wake Forest University with a concentration in The Social Determinants of Health. Her research interests center on the ways gender, sexuality, and race & ethnicity impact perceptions of individuals, groups, and the social roles which they inhabit. At Wake Forest, Andréa wrote an honor’s thesis on the Jewish community in Berlin and the collective memory of the Holocaust, and worked as a research intern at Forsyth County Family Services in the Domestic Violence unit. Her master’s thesis explores the way normative ideas about sexuality and gender impact perceptions on cyberstalking, asking the question “where do individuals draw the line between normative romance and criminal stalking?”. Other projects include examining media portrayals of Latinx immigrants in new Southeast destinations as well as the impact of intensive mothering norms on the abortion narratives of women in Tennessee. She is also working toward a certificate in Gender Studies and is part of the interdisciplinary research team GetPreCise, which centers on questions of genetics and privacy.
