Cisgender/Transgender Health Disparities across the Age Distribution and the Uneven Burden of Stress
Transgender individuals experience worse health than their cisgender counterparts. Although studies have documented a trans health disadvantage in studies with populations of specific ages (e.g., adolescents and youth; ages 50 and older), relatively less research investigates heterogeneity in cis/trans health disparities across the age distribution. In this talk, I will draw on repeated cross-sectional data from the CDC’s BRFSS (n=1,682,226) to examine disparities in poor/fair self-rated health and diagnosed depression between cis and trans populations by age and examine whether stress exposure differentially accounts for the disparities between those groups. Results from the study will be discussed, along with implications for future work.
